When an organisation undertakes a project or programme of change, a Senior Executive is needed to assume responsibility for its success. This person, the Project Sponsor may perform a project management role or can be a senior Executive within the organisation, who provides the crucial link between the delivery team and the Board. They need the power and influence to effectively promote the change to the organisation, ensure the delivery team has the resources required and the necessary controls are in place to guarantee the project is successfully carried out within the planned timescales and to budget. The PS will normally take on the role because they have a vested interest in the project and are likely to have the most to gain from its success and the most to lose should it fail.
